I have been suffering with migraine headaches for a long time. In fact I have one as I write this. My headaches usually last a couple of days and light, noise and stress just make them worse.According to Webster, a migraine is an intense headache. Migraine headaches can occur at any time during the day and usually the symptoms are a throbbing pain on one or both sides of the head, sensitivity to light, sound or both, nausea and even vomiting. Migraines can last for up to two days. Some migraine sufferers get these headaches a couple of times a week while others may only get them a couple of times a year. Migraine sufferers are usually between the ages of 15 and 55. You are at a higher risk for getting migraine headaches if you are female and have a family history of migraines. Migraines usually subside with age.Migraines can be treated with a number of different medications. Pain relieving medications can be used to treat the pain after and during a migraine attack. Preventative medications can be taken on a daily basis for sever migraine sufferers. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen can be used to treat mild migraines. Triptans relieve the symptoms of migraines like sensitivity to light and nausea and vomiting. Anti nausea medications can also be used to treat the stomach aches associated with migraines. Several other medications can be taken to treat and prevent migraines.
